A sports writer based in Hoquiam, Wash. is stuck without an outlet to release his spleen on anything and everything. Life is full of upper-class twits and they need to be dealt with... Lemon Curry?

On television and live, a lot of weird was taking place in the NFL. Five laterals, wide right -- The New Orleans Saints, still clinging onto a playoff berth, broke out a five lateral last-second play to get to within one point of Jacksonville on Sunday. This was a play that was remeniscent of "The Big Play" in 1983 -- five laterals by Cal players to defeat the John Elway-led Stanford team in "The Big Game" in Berkeley. A wonderful play that makes the game great. Then, Saints kicker John Car...

Drove to Safeway for some groceries, found the place to be packed with a ton of people. I went to the refrigerated dairy section, looking for some cheese when I encounter a mother with three kids. The mother picks up the imitation cheese and puts it into her basket. "Mom, why can't we have this cheese? It tastes better," the oldest, possibly 10 years old, says. "No, we can't afford it," the mother replies. I grab my pepper jack cheese and move on to the soda isle when the mother and her brood c...

No formatting on this one. Just a straight post. I've been known for getting into trouble with my wife by asking one simple question: "Hey, what's wrong?" Or better yet: "Are You OK?" Late last week, I asked. And what I got was in to more hot water than I'd care to admit. My wife read my blog. OK, not a big deal, really, but... "I just get the feeling that you won't talk to me," she said. "Why's that," I asked. (UH Oh!) Then she told me that she read my blog about the wedding ring and abou...

Some handy hints from my uncle. (Yes, it is an e-mail, but hey, we can all learn something new each day.) 1. Budweiser beer conditions the hair. 2. Pam cooking spray will dry finger nail polish. 3. Cool whip will condition your hair in 15 min. 4. Mayonnaise will KILL LICE, it will also condition your hair. 5. Elmer's Glue - paint on your face, allow it to dry, peel off and see the dead skin and blackheads if any. 6. Shiny Hair - use brewed Lipton Tea. 7. Sunburn - empty a large jar of Nestea in...

Unless you are a news junkie or live in the Northwest, you may not know about these two events. Regardless, it has been a tough time out here. On Nov. 28, a 41-year-old woman with a history of strange and violent nature committed suicide in a large park here in Grays Harbor. Before she took her own life by swallowing perscription drugs, she brutally stabbed and killed a 4-year-old boy she was babysitting. Police said that the boy didn't die quickly, because there was proof that he tried to dra...

Lawrence Taylor sat down with Mike Wallace of "60 Minutes" and told him and the world of his excesses in the National Football League. Lawrence Taylor, better known as LT, is considered one of the best football players of our generation, a defensive player who changed the way the game of pro football was played on the field. And, according to his book, he changed the way the game of pro football was play off the field, too. Drugs, hookers, parties, sex, guns, more drugs, more sex, more hookers ...

Excuse the long pause since my last blog. Work has me at my wit's end. OK, on Sunday, I return from the Seattle Seahawks game, tired from a long drive and a little bit pissed off at my brother-in-law. He was being a little sensitive about his driving and I was just mentioning to him that cops love pulling over drivers who hit over 80 mph in the rain... nothing big. I walk into the house and my wife is on the couch, looking as if she'd been through the ringer. On a Sunday, that's not good. Befo...

On Monday, the FCC now allows consumers to keep their old cell phone numbers between carriers, which is a very good idea for those who have had their phones/carriers a long time and want to switch without losing their numbers. But what am I going to do with my old phone now that I switch carriers, kept my same number and got an upgraded phone? Recycle it. So, I headed down to Staples, where I saw a sign asking people to bring in their old cell phones and I donated two phones. A company called C...

Random thoughts from an observer of all things and a participant in none. • There isn’t much good in popular music these days. I can sit and watch MTV, MTV2, VH1, Fuse, Saturday Night Live, and other music channels/shows and nothing grabs me in the boo-boo like Nirvana, Soundgarden, vintage Van Halen (before Sammy Hagar and whoever else Eddie has dragged in front of the mike), old Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sheryl Crow, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Cash did when...

The holiday season is upon us and for most people, that means a few trips to relatives, friends and in-laws for Thanksgiving, Chanuka, Christmas, Kwanza, New Year's Eve and South Park reruns. What this also means is a highway full of people whose minds aren't on the road or on what they are doing. So, from someone who will be spending the next several weeks on the roads covering state playoff games and league basketball contests, here are some helpful hints, suggestions and dogmas you should ta...

This is a test of the emergency haiku system.... To know me is to believe me when I say that work is just a bore. •••••••• Arguing on the Web is kind of silly, even when you believe you are right! •••••••• My mind is made up of worthless, obscure things, like bread crumbs under your toaster. •••••••• Liberals, Conservatives They're all just labels to me! Can't we get along? •••••••• When will it all end? A meteor from the sky or crossing the street today? •••••••• Yes, hon...

Spam sucks, but sometimes you get something that is just mind-blowingly horrible and funny that you have to share. This came to a friend of mine this afternoon. Story Idea: Holiday Ice Breakers Debra Fine, author The Fine Art of Small Talk, provides her top-ten ice breakers everyone can use to turn holiday get-togethers into opportunities for sharing, caring, and warmth: 1. "What is your connection to the host/hostess or organization?" 2. "What do you enjoy the most about this time/...

Just a few weeks ago, me and my wife went to the movies. We haven't gone in quite a while and the experience was good. However, I have a question: Is it better to watch a movie in a theatre that is full or empty? We saw "Lost in Translation" with Bill Murray. I liked the movie a lot. It was a different take on unaquainted love from a different point of view. The theatre was completely empty, except for us. It was strange, but nice. No worries about other people talking, but is that rea...

If I happen to describe you in this, I'm sorry. Well, maybe not. Sports Parents who need to curl up and die: 1. Swim parents. I find that the more elitist the sport, the more money needed to engage in the sport, the more isolated the sport is to society and the more egotistical the participant, you'll find the worst parents. In swimming circles, the swim parent is the norm. To everyone else, this parent is the worst. "Why isn't my child in the paper?" "He's just as much as athlete as a footb...

On the Associated Press/Reuters news wire, Veteran's Day, 2003: • Larry Flynt says he won't use nude (Jessica) Lynch photos... New York (AP) — Pornographer Larry Flynt says he bought nude photos of Pfc. Jessica Lynch to publish in Hustler magazine, but changed his mind because she's a "good kid" who became "a pawn for the government." Flynt told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he bought the photos last month from the men who purportedly participated in the amateur shoot with the Army ...
